Reach for Excellence welcomes prospective families to an open house

On Saturday, April 6, Reach for Excellence opened its doors to over twenty prospective families who were eager to learn more about the program. Executive Director Dr. Linda Lehmil shared an overview of Reach before sending students and their families out to tour with recent Reach for Excellence graduates. Students visited classrooms and heard from current students and teachers about the program and the impact that it has had on their lives.

The information sessions were offered in English and Spanish, and tours were offered in English, Spanish, and Amharic.

Having Reach graduates who are currently in high school lead the tours allowed prospective families to get an authentic view of the program. It also provided scholars with an opportunity to practice public speaking and leadership skills.

During the tour, Michael, a recent graduate and current Marist student shared, “I couldn’t have gotten into Marist if I hadn’t had the help of Reach for Excellence. I am really grateful.” Naod, another recent graduate stated, “Reach pushes you to do your best, even on days when you don’t want to do your best.”

We hope to see many of these talented students as part of the Reach for Excellence program in the fall of 2024.
