Courage Can Change The Course Of History

How has courage changed the course of history? This is the theme that Ms. Anderson’s 8th grade Language Arts class is exploring as they read “Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race” by Margot Lee Shetterly. This critically acclaimed and compelling story provides a wonderful example for students to discuss a wide variety of relevant topics.

These students are also learning how to write five paragraph essays, an important skill as they look to college prep high schools. Students were asked to relate the information and themes from “Hidden Figures” to information they had learned about American history to answer the question, “How has courage changed the course of history?”  We expect some of these scholars will change history one day as well.
